The Eagles have visited with free-agent Kahlil Bell and have interest in Marcus McNeill. Philadelphia is looking for a tackle in the wake of a serious injury suffered by All-Pro tackle Jason Peters. He suffered a devastating Achilles injury that could jeopardize his season.

Bills general manager Buddy Nix says he wants to work out a contract extension for Fred Jackson and the running back's agent believes him. "Buddy Nix has been honest and consistent with us all along," agent Ron Raccuia told WGR-AM. "I'm confident talks will get started in the next couple of months."

The one-year contract that Ronde Barber signed with the Buccaneers to return for a 16th season is worth $3 million, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Barber, who has 43 interceptions and 913 tackles in 15 seasons with Tampa Bay, agreed to return for another campaign earlier in March.

Asante Samuel might be willing to shave as much as $2.5 million off his earnings for next season to facilitate Philadelphia's efforts to trade him, according to a report. Philadelphia Daily News reporter Paul Domowitch wrote that the cornerback, who is set to make $9.5 million in 2012, would be open to reducing that figure to $7 million.

Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland has begun talks on contract extensions with offensive tackle Jake Long, linebacker Cameron Wake and wide receiver Brian Hartline. All three players are in the final year of their contracts. "Certainly, those players that we know that are coming up we all know we want to retain them. We have to make sure we're in a position to do that," owner Stephen Ross said.

Ricky Williams has signed his NFL retirement papers, but he hasn't completely ruled out playing football again. The running back said in a radio interview that he would consider returning to play for his hometown Chargers.

The 49ers agreed to a one-year contract with former Giants running back Brandon Jacobs, a league source said Wednesday. Jacobs is the second former Giant to join the 49ers this offseason, following receiver Mario Manningham, who signed a two-year contract last week.

The agent for Mike Jenkins, Drew Rosenhaus, has approached the Cowboys about a possible contract extension. The team hasn't exchanged financial numbers yet, but there is hope Jenkins can continue to play with Dallas over the long-term.

It appears as though LaDainian Tomlinson is still open to playing football. Tomlinson, 33, played last season for the Jets, but he is a free agent. The running back is waiting to see if any teams show interest in him, but indicated that even if no one does, he is fine with whatever his future may hold. "Obviously I'm a free agent and I'm still open to playing," he said. "I am just taking my time through this free agency stuff just continuing to explore my options and make a decision here on my future depending on my options, so I'm excited about the future either way it goes if I continue to play or if I don't."

There has been speculation that the Colts could trade Dwight Freeney to save money, but general manager Ryan Grigson denied those rumors. "There's never been any substance that would suggest we're doing anything like that. He's a Colt, period," Grigson said. "Everything with Dwight is great. He's going to be here this year," he added. "We expect him to be a major contributor and a guy who strikes fear in our opponents and those offensive linemen every week."
